Did you know that most animals have a higher body temperature than humans, around 38–39°C? This is exactly what we can detect with high-quality thermal imagers. If you’re curious about what animal activity looks like after sunset, this tour is for you.
During this tour, you will be the one using the thermal imager — you’ll have to spot the animals yourself.
A thermal imager is a more effective tool for detecting animals than a night vision device. It also allows you to spot them from much greater distances (in open terrain and good conditions, even from over 2.5 km away). So we get in the car and set off…
Why by car? Because this tour takes place in the Białowieża Forest but outside the national park, and most importantly — animals are not afraid of cars. They often don’t even stop feeding. If we walked on foot, we would scare them much more (they would smell us, they don’t expect human presence after sunset, and we can’t move as silently as they do).
Besides, even the best thermal imager won’t spot animals in the forest from more than 100–150 meters away, and by that point they already know we’re there and run away…
